Trenchless methods
Sectional point repair in Atlantic City
Not every lateral in Atlantic City needs to be lined end to end. When the camera finds one open joint admitting tide water, one root hole at a mainland clay joint or one cracked length under a driveway, a sectional point repair fixes that spot alone and leaves the rest of the pipe as it was.

What a point repair is
A sectional point repair is a short cured-in-place liner, typically between two and six feet long, installed at one location in a lateral rather than along its whole length. The patch is a sleeve of fiberglass fabric saturated with resin and wrapped around an inflatable packer. The packer is pushed or pulled through the lateral to the footage recorded by the camera, inflated so the sleeve is pressed against the pipe wall over the defect, and held there while the resin hardens. It is then deflated and withdrawn, leaving a hard ring of new pipe bonded to the old one on either side of the damage. The sewer is back in service the same day.
Defects it suits in Atlantic City
The typical candidate on the island is a single clay joint that settlement has pulled open and that now admits groundwater and sand on every tide. Others include a cracked length of cast iron where a slab has moved, a joint offset where one pipe section dropped and its neighbor did not, and a hole where an earlier plumber's cutter went through the wall. On the mainland in Galloway, Egg Harbor Township and Absecon, the common candidate is a root intrusion at one joint under a stand of oak or pitch pine, cut out and then sealed so the roots have nowhere to re-enter. Damaged branch connections, where a second bathroom line ties into the lateral, are repaired with a shaped patch that covers the junction. In the casino-hotels and condo towers a point repair handles one failed fitting in a long building drain without lining the entire run.
The sequence on site
- The lateral is jetted so the patch area is clean, and the camera confirms the defect's position and the condition of the pipe on both sides of it.
- The resin is mixed and worked into the fiberglass sleeve, which is wrapped around the packer and secured.
- The packer is moved into the lateral from the cleanout to the marked footage, with a camera watching its position.
- The packer is inflated, pressing the sleeve to the wall, and held while the resin cures, which takes from under an hour to a few hours depending on the system used.
- The packer is deflated and pulled out, and the camera runs the lateral again to record the finished patch.
No excavation takes place unless the lateral has no cleanout, in which case a small pit at the foundation provides access.
When a point repair is the wrong choice
The patch depends on sound pipe on both sides to bond to, so a lateral whose whole length is cracked or scaled is not a candidate for one patch, or for several. It does not correct a belly, because it follows the existing grade just as a full liner does. It cannot be set in a pipe that has lost its round shape, which rules out ovaled Orangeburg. In those cases the honest recommendation is a full liner, a burst or a spot excavation, and the installer who runs the camera should say so. the verified installer covering Atlantic City performs point repairs across Atlantic City and the mainland communities of Atlantic County and quotes a full liner alongside the patch when the recording makes the comparison worth seeing. The materials and standards that point repairs share with full-length lining are documented at the CIPP reference.
Permits and records
A point repair still counts as sewer lateral work in the eyes of the state, which means a plumbing permit from the town's construction office and a licensed master plumber on record, as the Uniform Construction Code requires. No road-opening permit is involved when the work is done from a cleanout on private property. The post-repair recording becomes part of the owner's file, which is useful at a sale when a buyer's inspector asks what the patch is and why it is there.
Getting it scheduled
Call (877) 739-3789 or send the form. A point repair is often completed on the same visit as the inspection that found the defect, since the crew carries the packer and the resin on the truck, which makes it the quickest permanent fix available for a lateral in Atlantic City. Installers vetted for other regions appear at the verified installer directory.

Questions we hear about sectional point repair
How does the crew know where to set the patch?+
The camera records the footage count at the defect, and the packer carrying the patch is marked at the same count. A second camera follows the packer to the spot and confirms the position on screen before the bladder is inflated. The patch lands within an inch or two of where it was planned.
Can a point repair stop infiltration at a single joint?+
Yes, and it is one of the most common uses on the island. A clay joint that has separated and admits tidal water at every high tide is covered by the patch, which bonds to sound pipe on both sides of the gap. The flow of clean water and sand into the lateral stops at that location.
What if the camera finds three bad spots?+
Three patches can be set in one visit, but at some count the economics tip toward lining the whole run. The installer prices both and explains the break-even for that lateral. On a sixty-foot residential line, more than two or three defects usually favors a full liner.
Is a point repair as durable as a liner?+
The patch is the same type of resin composite and bonds to the host pipe the same way, so its life expectancy is comparable. The rest of the lateral, however, remains the original pipe with its original age, which is why a point repair is recommended only when the inspection shows that pipe to be sound.
How do I get a price?+
Dial (877) 739-3789 or fill out the short form. A camera visit locates and measures the defect, the patch is sized to it, and the quote names a fixed price for the repair with the permit included. Estimates are free; call now.
